Wild Places. Real Connections. True Adventure.

Welcome to MSASA

Mountain

Perched high above the Manchewe Valley, our mountain camp offers a range of stays to suit every traveler, from rustic camping and cozy cabins to charming cottages, a private villa, and our unique Writer’s Hut designed for inspiration and retreat. At the heart of it all is our restaurant, with breathtaking views stretching over the valley to Lake Malawi.

Beach

Set right on the golden sands of Lake Malawi, our beach camp is all about simplicity and charm. Stay in our single en-suite double room or pitch your tent at one of our shaded campsites, surrounded by lush gardens. With direct access to the beach, it’s the perfect spot to relax, swim, and soak up the lake’s beauty.

Experiences

From mountain trails and waterfalls to kayaking on Lake Malawi, our experiences are designed to connect you with nature and local culture. Hike to Livingstonia, explore hidden forests, cycle rugged paths, snorkel at a secluded island or unwind with a massage after a day outdoors. Whether at the mountain or the beach, every adventure invites real connection and unforgettable memories.

The MSASA Tribe

Mama Africa has always been more than a place on a map for us. It’s a rhythm, a story, a horizon that never ends. At MSASA, we invite you to step into that story, not as a spectator, but as part of it.

Our eco camps are tucked into some of Malawi’s most breathtaking wild spaces: the mountains of Livingstonia, the Miombo woodlands, the valley of Manchewe, and the golden shores of Lake Malawi. Here, the land still feels raw and unpolished, where wilderness pockets whisper of an older Africa. We built MSASA so that these places aren’t lost, but lived in, experienced, remembered, and passed on.

A journey to MSASA is never just about where you sleep, but about what you live along the way. Imagine waking up to the call of primates in the forest, or the rising sun spilling across the lake from the mountains of Tanzania. Spend your days hiking trails carved by waterfalls, kayaking across clear waters, or sitting quietly with a coffee as fishermen pull in their nets on the beach. At night, gather under a canopy of stars, with the hum of cicadas and the crackle of a fire carrying the soundtrack of Africa.

We are travellers at heart, overlanders, adventurers, wanderers who believe the best roads are often the least-travelled ones. Our story is one of long drives through Mama Africa, of Land Rovers and Jimnys, of border crossings and broken-down trucks, of chance encounters and friendships made in the dust. MSASA was born from that spirit, the joy of the open road and the belief that the journey matters as much as the destination.

Yet, what truly sets MSASA apart is how it weaves people and place together. Our cabins are built from local wood, reeds, and thatch, blending into the forest. Our food is hearty and rooted in the traditions of the Tumbuka people. Our staff are not just employees but hosts, storytellers, and guardians of this land. Every stay helps to protect the forest, the waterfall, the wildlife, and the communities who call these valleys home.

This is the romance of Africa, not just in sunsets and safaris, but in the quiet details: a tree that’s stood for centuries, a meal shared in the forest kitchen, a road that winds endlessly into the horizon. MSASA is where those details come alive.

So whether you come to pitch a tent beneath the Miombo woodland, to stay in a forest cabin with views over the valley, to retreat into a private villa, or to find inspiration in the Writer’s Cottage, you’ll discover that MSASA is more than accommodation. It’s a way of travelling, slower, deeper, more connected.

We welcome you to join us. Not just to visit, but to belong, if only for a while, to this corner of Africa, and to carry its story with you long after you’ve left.

“Amazing location, on top of the mountain, great view, very good restaurant. Easy walking distance to Manchewe Waterfalls, staff and management are extremely helpful, and from here you can do other many activities. You can camp or glamp, or even stay in the villa. Options for everyone.”
